Skydiving course

Become a skydiver

The next level is to jump alone and become a fully autonomous skydiver. Our skydiving school has trained the most students in Portugal. Join us!

Safety first

We use the best parachute equipments and our instructors have years of experience and have trained many student skydivers.

AFF and IQLcourses

You can do the full course (AFF) or just try the Initiation jump (IQL).
AFF : 1500€
IQL : 349€

Accelerated Free Fall (AFF)

The AFF course is the most modern training course for becoming a skydiver. The course consists of eight levels (seven of which correspond to seven levels of evolution). In the first three levels the student is accompanied by two instructors and one instructor in the remaining four levels. The eighth level is the student's first solo jump. Each jump is filmed so the instructors can then make an accurate assessment of it and give the best debriefings to the student. All equipment is state-of-the-art and meet the highest safety standards.

This course is intended for all those who wish develop an activity related to parachuting.

AFF initiation (IQL)

The AAF Initiation Course corresponds to the 1st level of the Accelerated Free Fall course (theory plus the 1st jump). The student jumps accompanied by two instructors, performs opening simulations and later on he opens his own parachute. If the student wishes to continue, he can take over from the 2nd level of the full AFF course. The Initiation price will be deducted from the AFF price. The jump is filmed by an instructor, for use during the debriefing and also in case the student want's to continue for the full AFF course. If the student doesn't wish to continue to the AFF course he can buy the video for only 30€, otherwise it is included in the AFF price.

This course is intended for all those who wish develop an activity related to parachuting.

O Curso de AFF em Detalhe

salto de paraquedas - The Theory

The Theory

The theoretical part lasts about 5 to 6 hours and its main objective is to prepare the student for the first jump, so that this takes place under the best possible safety conditions. During the treory part the instructor will present the equipment, free fall position, parachute flight, landing, management of incidents, and many other usefull details. The goal is that the student has the maximum of knowledge before jumping.

salto de paraquedas - The Briefing

The Briefing

Before the first and any other jump, a briefing will take place. It consist of presenting the objectives of the jump, what is expected in the course of the jump and the techniques to be applied. All phases of the jump will be simulated and reminded to the student. Also before every jump, we will analyze the weather and wind conditions and choose the appropriate landing pattern that will be used.

salto de paraquedas - Boarding

When the briefing is done, we are ready for the first jump. After the student is equipped, the instructor performs an inspection and then they both go for boardind. For safety reasons the approach to the airplane is always done by the back to avoid the propeller. The instructor will show you how to board and where to seat in the plane.

salto de paraquedas - Climbing to exit altitude

Climbing to exit altitude

After the take off and about 300m of altitude the student will be able to take off his helmet in order to ease communication. During the 20 minute climb the instructor will show the student the jump zone viewed from above, the student will review all signs and position corrections and review all the details to take into account during the jump. When they reach 3000 meters the instructor will turn on the radio and check again the parachute (handles, straps and security system).

salto de paraquedas - Exit from the plane

Exit from the plane

After the 15 minutes of flight is time to make the latest security checks. The pilot is ready to drop us, we can open the door. The first skydivers will jump and then is the AFF student's turn. The instructors and the student are setting up at the door! A last breath, a wave to synchronize with the instructors and the student gives an impulse to jump out of the plane accompanied by his instructors.

salto de paraquedas - The 3 first jumps

The 3 first jumps

During the first 3 jumps the student is jumping with 2 instructors. From he door exit and for the first 10 second the student will reach the terminal velocity of 200-220km/h. During these 3 jumps the instructors will make sure that the student is having a good free fall position, is checking regularly his altimeter, is relaxed and is enjoying the skydive.

salto de paraquedas - Jumps number 4 to 7

Jumps number 4 to 7

For these jumps only 1 instructors is now needed. In these jumps the student will learn to do loops, turns, back-flips, front-flips, etc. In general these jumps are more fun than the first jumps and the student is getting used to the free fall and he also enjoy it more. Also after the parachute opening the student is accompanied by radio.

salto de paraquedas - The parachute opening

The parachute opening

At 1500m the student will open the parachute, if he cannot doing, the instructor will open it for him. The opening lasts about 3-4 seconds and about 150 meters. Now it's the student's responsibility to check that the parachute is correctly opened and that flies well, by applying the knowledge he acquired during the theory course. Then the instructor via the radio will give some parachute flying exercises to the student - simple stuff like 'make a 90º left turn'.

salto de paraquedas - The Landing

The Landing

As the student approaches the landing area, the instructor will drive him through a special landing pattern (path). The instructor will also give the student the exact timing for the landing manoeuvre. Later on, on the next jumps, when the student feels conformable, he will be able to do the landing without the instructo's help.

salto de paraquedas - Debriefing

Back to the hangar there will be a debriefing about the jump. It is at this moment that the videos taken during the jump are analyzed. The positive and negative points are highlighted and the points to improve in the next jump are discussed in detail and showed during the next briefing. The instructor adapts to the student's learning speed, but also motivates the student when needed.

salto de paraquedas - 8th jump – First Solo jump

8th jump – First Solo jump

For the 8th jump, if the student has acquired basic safety and flight skills, the instructor will do the briefing for the first solo jump. Aaahhhh the first solo jump, this is undoubtedly be the most impressive moment of every skydiver out there.

Certifications and Organisations

Federação Portuguesa de Paraquedismo (FPPq)

QuedaLivre is certified by the Portuguese Parachute Federation (FPPq). The FPPq was created in 1991 and is the organisation that holds all the sport powers related to Skydive in Portugal. These powers were granted by the Aeroclube De Portugal, with the consent of the International Aeronautical Federation (FAI). The FPPq has held the UPD status since 1996. After a brief interruption of two years, the FPPq reacquired this status in 2015.

Autoridade Nacional da Aviação Civil (ANAC)

The Figueira dos Cavaleiros aerodrome is certified by the ANAC. ANAC's main purpose is to regulate the civil aviation sector. It is the competence of the ANAC to define the requirements and technical assumptions regarding the granting of licenses, certifications and authorizations in the field of civil aviation. It is also up to the ANAC to define the necessary rules for the application of standards and recommendations of technical standardization, emanating from the international organizations of the civil aviation sector.

A United States Parachute Association (USPA)

The United States Parachute Association (USPA) is the equivalent of the Portuguese Parachute Federation (FPPq). USPA is recognized around the world in skydiving. Our skydive drop zone is certified by the USPA. It means that our jumping zone is recommended by USPA. It also means that any Skydiving can jump in our drop zone.

Qualificação Micro Sigma

Sigma is a brand of UPT (United Parachute Technologies) created by Bill Booth, the greatest inventor in the skydiving sector for the past 40 years! The Sigma Tandem is the safest and most advanced tandem parachute in the world. It has been used in skydiving for many years and has proven its qualities, safety, endurance and comfort.
